The Panda 4x4 is supplied with a shelter for the central support of the drive shaft made of painted sheet metal.
After an intense use of the car on difficult surfaces the inevitable scratches make it attacks from rust, reducing its functionality. The shelter produced by PROMETEO is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, therefore it is resistant to corrosion. However, the PROMETEO shelter is longer than the standard one and therefore guarantees better protection of the central support.
The design of the central shelter has been recently updated compared to the first version: we tried to obtain a more "sled" profile to facilitate disengagement on the ground and facilitate the exit of mud and debris that may eventually enter the shelter itself.
On the other hand, the AISI 304 stainless steel construction has been maintained as we have seen that its corrosion resistance is very good!
Our shelter is conceived as a "sacrificial" element that is able to absorb the energy of an impact without transferring it to the elements adjacent to it, in other words it must protect the support of the transmission shaft and its attacks on the body. It is not designed to withstand high shocks without deformation because otherwise it would risk transferring the energy of the impact to the body, with the risk of deformation.
Remember, however, that in case of excessive collisions no shelter is able to fully fulfill its task, so it is always advisable to avoid violent impacts between the ground and the underbody of the car.
Like all products of Prometeo Meccanica the shelter is designed by Prometeo srl and rigorously built in Italy.
